WHAT IS SPIRULINA?
Spirulina is a biomass of cyanobacteria ( blue-green algae) that can be consumed by humans and animals. It has been used for centuries as a food source due to Its high nutritional value.
Now spirulina is used as a dietary supplement, and It goes under the “superfood” category.
_Spirulina is available in tablets, capsules, and powder.
WHERE DOES SPIRULINA GROW?
Spirulina grows naturally in oceans, lakes, and ponds with high PH and high concentrations of carbonate and bicarbonate. And It grows best in environments that have high levels of sunlight. So Therefore It is mainly found in Africa, lake Texcoco in central Mexico, and It is still harvested from Lake Chad in west-central Africa like it has been for centuries. Also, the purest spirulina comes out of Hawaii.
HOW TO TAKE SPIRULINA?
You can add spirulina to your smoothies and you can drink It with lemon, or orange juice, or any juice you prefer.
WHAT IS THE DAILY DOSAGE OF SPIRULINA?
It is safe to take spirulina every day. Studies have shown that between 1-8g per day could be effective.
_ YOU SHOULD NOT TAKE SPIRULINA IN THESE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
When you are pregnant or breastfeeding_ It is not yet proven enough that It is safe.
If you are younger than 18
If you are taking any kind of medications especially blood clotting medicines, or immune system-related ones.
_ So if you have any issues or diseases you should check with your doctor or nutritionist before supplementing.
_There are not enough studies on spirulina yet, so more research is needed before any health claims relating to spirulina can be confirmed. But here’s what has been proven:
